How do we use NLP to improve our Tech Hiring?

We had to use our interview experts to spend their own time to interview new candidates and it’s costing us big. Also, interviewers select candidates as they are biased. We always asked how can we solve this problem?

One of our team members came up with an idea to solve this problem — why don’t we integrate NLP and custom NER to understand the user answers and then funnel the curated answer to our scoring engine?

It turns out a great idea to solve our on-going problem.

We will walk you through our process:

  1. The interviewer asks the first question.
  2. When the candidate answers, our listener will record it and send it to s3 Bucket.
  3. We use our in-house and AWS Transcribe combined model to score the answer and then suggest the next question to be asked.
  4. The interviewer can ask the suggested question or she can override the question as well.
  5. Once all questions have been asked, we give the option to the interviewer to give their score (1–10) and compare it with our scoring engine as well.

Note: we will write another article about our Scoring engine and how it works!

Human Touch:

As AWS Transcribe doesn’t their job enough for our technical interviews, we have to inject the human touch in our interview process.

We hire physically challenged freelancers to support our interview by listening to the recorded answers and then transcribe them in the text format as well.

By keeping them as moderators, we are supporting the physically challenged freelancers as well.

Also, their transcription will be fed into our scoring engine to validate the answer better.
